Founded in 2008, La Marelle ("hopscotch" in French) is a non-profit making charity, currently run by its founding members, four French mothers from the Dartford area, who met thanks to the "FrancoForum" group.
These mothers realised that they were all struggling with the same problem: how to pass on their French culture and language to their children in an almost entirely English-speaking environment. Other French communities throughout the UK have solved this problem by creating their own Saturday morning schools - the FrancoMamans decided to do the same !
La Marelle will start by offering a primary school to help children master the French language and follow at least part of the French curriculum. Once the school is established, the charity intends to develop its services to French families by offering a French-speaking nursery, a library, and organising coffee mornings for the mothers.
